Panicum virgatum 'Cloud Nine', also known as Tall Switch Grass, this strong growing 6' vertical clumps of metallic blue foliage are topped by reddish brown cloud-like plumes in late summer thru fall. This clumping, warm weather loving grass typically grows to 3' tall, however, when flowers emerge, the flower panicles may bring the total plant height to 6'. This ornamental grass features medium green leaves which turn yellow or orange in autumn, fading to tan-beige in winter. Foliage clump is topped in mid-summer by finely-textured, pink-tinged, branched flower panicles which hover over the foliage like an airy cloud. Panicles turn beige as the seeds mature in fall with the seed plumes persisting well into winter. Feed in March and November with Planttone. Re-mulch every January and June. Prune almost to the ground every April 1st. Deep soak every 2 weeks the first 2 summers. Cut plumes in fall and spray with preservative for dried flower arrangements. | |
